the King of England marrying the Queen of Aquitain retaining the chic splendour
of its rural setting famous for the wine and cognac, most visitors enjoy relaxing
by the pool, having a barbecue or just chilling out in the fantastic south facing
location.
The area of Charente is well known for its excellent cuisine,
cognacs and wines. In the local area alone, there are several fantastic auberges
and many fabulous restaurants to visit. The Charentaise people are well known to
be the friendliest and warmest of people, especially to the English, with whom
they share a romantic historic past. In nearby towns, there is a wonderful
variety of shops, as well as historic and futuristic sights to see, and places
of interest to visit. Maquignon, set in rural South West France, is such a
peaceful place for unwinding and relaxing and enjoying the countryside, yet set
in such a way that you can travel around and enjoy the "chic, splendour and
culture" that France is renowned for.

FISHING
The Lakes ...
The fishing lake in the grounds is stocked with
carp up to 30lbs, tench etc.
In 2005 we purchased a new lake (approximately 2
acres) and several acres of woodland adjoining our property. It's an idyllic
spot in a nature reserve, the lake is spring fed and up to 30 ft deep. It has a
native population of Carp, Tench, Perch and Roach. In December we re-stocked the
lake with 2 tonnes of carp from 3 Kilos (7 Pounds) to over 20 Kilo (45 Pounds),
Tench up to 3 Kilo (7 Pounds) and a few Pike. Only a small number of guests who
stay at our properties are allowed to fish this lake, it's only for the
experienced angler and children must not be left alone by the lake due to its
isolation and depth of water.
We do not need to restock as fish are always
returned so they are breeding all the time. You will not find better
fishing and its free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the big lake we have stocked some carp
of over 40lb these are wild fish not like in uk .
The lake is an old quarry
from 70/80 years ago when the operator quarried for 'Terre Blanch" used by the
pharmaceutical and beauty product market. It was abandoned due to the
underground streams flooding the excavation.
You can sit in complete
tranquility to fish and surrounded by wildlife: watch the woodpeckers flying by
and the kingfishers swooping for fish. It's a wonderful, special place, the
pictures do not do it justice.
