This large and
spacious villa is set in beautiful, wooded countryside, magnificent views of
which can be enjoyed from the first floor. The lovingly renovated sleeping
accommodation on the first floor comprises two double rooms, one of which has an
ensuite shower and toilet, a twin room and a room with bunk beds which has been
furnished and decorated with children in mind. The first floor also has a large
bathroom and plenty of storage space.
All of the bedrooms are light and airy
as they benefit from large windows which look onto beautiful views of the garden
and surrounding woodland.
On the ground floor there is a completely new
large shower room with a toilet. As you enter the property through French doors
you enter the spacious lounge which can provide a comfortable space to escape
the midday sun. The lounge still contains the original stone fireplace as well
at television, DVD player and a hi-fi.
Adjacent to this there is a fully
equipped modern kitchen. There is a large fridge freezer, a washing machine and
a dishwasher to make your stay as hassle free as possible.
There is also
a further reception room on this level. This is a perfect spot for relaxing and
reading or alternatively the fold-down couch can be used to convert this into a
fifth bedroom.
Finally on the ground floor there is a beautiful bright
dining room with huge windows. This seats 10 and looks out over the
garden.
The dining room leads out onto the patio area.
The patio area
also has dining furniture as well as a canopy to provide some shade from the
sun. The garden itself has a plunge pool of 1.3 metres in depth and 4.5 metres
in diameter, which is great for cooling off. There are further facilities to
keep children amused such as a swing and sandpit. We have provided a gas
barbeque as well as two bikes and helmets for exploring the surrounding
countryside.
LOCATION
La Forge is situated in a quaint hamlet just five
minutes drive from the nearest village, Cercoux. However it is much more
pleasurable to walk, or cycle, through the tranquil wooded countryside to get
there. This lovely village has all the day-to-day amenities you could want
including a bakery, a small supermarket, a pub with a restaurant and a garage.
There is even a hairdresser! Cercoux also has sports facilities including a
football pitch and tennis courts.
To the north Montguyon is a
traditional French market town (Wednesdays and Saturdays) where there is a large
new supermarket, a bank, a post office and a tourist information centre as well
as several cafes, pubs and restaurants. Worth a quick visit, for the view if
nothing else, are the ruins of Montguyon Castle which date from
1964.
Just on the other side of Montguyon there is a lake side resort
with a beach as well as other activities ideal for spending a relaxing
day.
Alternatively to the south there is the larger town of Coutras. It
is 15 minutes drive away and has a railway station where you can catch the train
north to Paris or south to Bordeaux and of course many towns in between. Coutras
itself is a market town and has several supermarkets. It is beautifully located
next to a river which is colourfully decorated with flowers in the
summer.
The nearest of France’s main cities is Bordeaux It is undoubtedly
worth a visit, either by train, or by using the park and ride facilities. The
nearest is a 40 minute drive from the house and is cheap to use. Bordeaux has a
beautiful old town centred around rue St-Catherine, reputed to be one of the
longest shopping streets in Europe. There is also some beautiful architecture to
see and plenty of pavement cafes perfect for relaxing and soaking up the
atmosphere.
It would be a crime to come to the area and not visit
St-Emilion. This beautiful town which dates back to pre-historic times is a
UNESCO World Heritage site and its Romanesque churches alone would take a day to
visit. Of course St-Emilion is one of the principle wines of the Bordeaux region
and it would be a shame not to sample this local speciality in one of the city’s
many cafes and restaurants.
