The location is stunning … the nearest village, Menigoute is an easy
10 minute walk while a 30 second walk along a quiet country lane takes you to a
beautiful lake perfect for picnics. The lake is well stocked with fish for the
angler and has a superb restaurant across the footbridge. There is also a
children’s playground and mini golf course.
For the serious golfer Chateau des Forges boasts a 27 hole course on 180 hectares … less than 15 minutes drive from the house.
Within 50 min are the sandy beaches of the Vendée and Charente Maritime, including La Rochelle, Ile de Ré, Les Sables d'Olonne and La Tranche sur Mer. The Marais Poitevin with Venise Vert waterways. For kids of all ages the Futuroscope theme park is an hour away near Poitiers (airport).
Other nearby sites of interest include Roman ruins and ancient silver mines. La Rochelle and the chateaux of the Loire make for a pleasant daytrip.
