Nestled in a rural hamlet in the heart of the Southern Vendée, La Maison Neuve Farmhouse
provides the ultimate stress free holiday. Well placed for all amenities
and the fabulous pine forests and sandy beaches of the coast, the nearest
village of La Caillere is 2.5kms away and has all services including a
boulangerie, Spa supermarket, butcher, authentic bars and restaurant.
The farmhouse itself is set in extensive grounds which are private, safe, secure and include a hexagonal swimming pool. The property has been renovated to a very good standard throughout, and offers plenty of space.

The house itself was completely renovated in 2007 and is laid out as follows;
Downstairs:
Games room – table tennis table, table football, various board games, beautiful large chateau style fireplace with exposed beams.
Kitchen – spacious modern kitchen with all built in appliances including dishwasher, fridge, microwave, large Smeg double oven, larger fridge freezer, plenty of cupboard space. Dining area with country style table and chairs, fireplace with wood burner for the winter (wood supplied).
Laundry Room – washing machine, iron, ironing board, drying area.
Lounge – large room with 52” TV complete with DVD, video player, freeview TV, comfortable sofas view to back garden, exposed beams.
Bedroom 5 - double bed.
Upstairs:
Master bedroom – king size bed, two walk in wardrobes, large en suite bathroom with claw foot bath and walk in shower.
Bedroom 2 – double bed plus cabin bed (suitable for a child up to age 12), walk in wardrobe, en suite shower room shared with bedroom 3.
Bedroom 3 – two single beds, walk in wardrobe.
Bedroom 4 – situated on the other side of the house and self contained, this room has a double bed with stairs down to a room with two single beds and en suite shower room. Door leads out onto the garden. This room is suitable for the elderly or those with mobility problems however, it is not wheelchair accessible.
Outside:
Large safe and secure garden, ideal for playing football etc
Overground octagonal swimming pool, 3m in diameter and 1.2 metres deep

LOCATION
The nearest village of La Caillere is 2.5kms away and has all services including a boulangerie, Spa supermarket, butcher, authentic bars and restaurant. The town of La Chataigneraie is situated 10mins away which has a number of large supermarkets and many other shops and restaurants. The historic town of Fontenay le Comte is approximately 20 mins away and is well worth a visit especially on market days (Saturday mornings). Not forgetting our own bar at St Sulpice where you can enjoy mixing with the locals whilst buying your baguette.
The Vendée is a very popular region with visitors, especially those with children, above all for the coastline and family entertainment. The name ‘Vendée’ is taken from the river that meanders through the south-east of the department. A microclimate, said to be similar to that of the Côte d'Azur, ensures that 2,500 hours of sunshine beam down on its 140km of sandy beaches each year, the nearest of which to La Maison Neuve is the bustley coastal town of La Faute sur Mer, approximately 40 minutes away.

THINGS TO DO
The first place you would think of boating in this region is around the waterways of the Marais Poitevin, or "Green Venice" area. At several villages you can rent flat-bottomed boats and paddle around a delightful maze of tiny canals, lined with overhanging trees. Nearer to La Maison Neuve is the village of Sigourney (15 mins) and the town of Chantonnay (20 mins) with lovely man-made beaches where you can swim in the lakes or paddle around in a canoe.
Fishing - A "carte pêche-vacances" (holiday fishing permit) is available for holidaymakers, and is valid for all non-private waters in the Vendée. Available through tackle shops, or contact us if you would like us to get you a permit. There is a local fishing/picnic lake in close proximity to La Maison Neuve where carp, roach, tench, perch, bream, pike, eels and trout are all readily available and daily passes can be obtained upon your behalf; also nearby is the stunning Lake De Rochereau which also offers superb fishing in great scenery.. Within 30 minutes drive of La Maison Neuve, is a man-made fishing complex of 100 hectares of lakes set in 150 hectares of parkland with restaurant facilities.
Golf - There are 15 golf courses within an hour and a half of La Maison Neuve, 4 of which are only 45 minutes away, suitable for all levels. The courses themselves are beautiful and spacious, especially early in the week, usually have great restaurants and are open to all - non-members as well as members. If you don’t have your clubs with you, they are available for hire at the course.
Mervent is only a very short drive from the gite and it has a dam and a large reservoir. The area has been developed with tourism in mind. There are large wooded areas ideal for walking and particularly mountain biking. There are places where pedalos and wind surfers can be hired, and wind surfing lessons are offered at reasonable rates. There are also restaurants, a small zoo and a very extensive fun park known as 'Pierre Brune', which has dozens of rides from castles, crazy bikes, and slides to hamster wheels and see-saws. This is good value at approximately £3.
The Indian Forest (approx an hour) is an amazing day out for all ages, even teenagers! It has bouncy castles and paddling pools for toddlers together with zip wires and varying levels of tree swinging and controlled bungee jumping (not for the feint hearted!). You can even rent a tree house for a night and swing through the trees in the dark. In busy periods it is wise to book in advance and there are height restrictions on some activities.
