Location The lovely property is located in the village of St Martin Des Fontaines, L'Hermenault village is just 2km away and has a small supermarket, boulangerie, pharmacy, bank, post office, English speaking doctor and dentist etc. There is a bar/restaurant in St Martin des Fontaines (approx 10 minutes walk ), they also do takeaway pizza a couple of nights in the week More information on Vendee beaches, activities, attractions, fishing etc can be found at the top of this page in the links box to the right The nearest town is Fontenay le Comte and is approx 15 minutes drive away offering a variety of hypermarkets, restaurants and cafes etc. A lovely renaissance town which must be seen. The property has an excellent location, with the beautiful city of La Rochelle and the exclusive island of Ile de Re being only 45 minute drive away. Beaches also approx 40 minute drive. There is plenty to do in the area whether your interests are water sports, walking, cycling, horse riding, visiting museums, tourist attractions, wine tasting the list goes on and on. Whatever your age and interests the Vendee has something to offer everybody. FISHING & THE LAKES AT MOULIN DE GARREAU
Moulin de Garreau is a beautiful property in wonderful grounds with lakes and woodland.
There are in fact 2 lakes at the property, one of which is just beside the mill and has a surface of about 4,000 square metres, the other lake is about 100 meters further on and this has a surface of about 15,000 square meters.
The lake beside the mill is totally private and exclusive to guests at the property, the lake further on can be used by neighbours and others, though it is not used often.
The lakes have Carp, Pike, Perch, Tench, Eels, Roach etc. The lakes are not restocked, but the fish are breeding all the time!
Great fishing and it's free!
There are very large fish in both lakes (not sure of weights but certainly a minimum of 4 kgs going up to approx 22kg)
You can see the fish jumping above the water in the morning and just under the water in the sunny areas.
The fish seem to be very skilled against the fishermen - a good challenge!
There is a fishing tackle room at the property and several fishing rods are provided, though you may prefer to bring your own.
