Golf in France is getting ever more popular, and the
Poitou-Charentes region is no exception to this.
Located between the
Loire Valley and Dordogne, this delightful, unspoiled countryside offers some
seriously challenging courses.
There are currently 21 golf courses in
Poitou-Charentes, covering the four départements of the Charente-Maritime,
Deux-Sèvres, Vienne & Charente. Poitou-Charentes is a very popular
destination in France with its micro climate making it the 2nd sunniest region
of France and with it being an easy drive from various ferry ports and so many
airports now scattered around the region, the Poitou-Charentes has also become a
good destination for golfing short breaks and golf holidays..
Golf clubs in
Poitou-Charentes are mainly sited in stunning locations throughout the varied
landscape of this beautiful region. They offer a great welcome and also place a
great deal of emphasis on the ‘19th hole’ - there is usually a good restaurant
or bar at each golf course!
You can hire everything at the golf courses
therefore it is not necessary to take your own golf clubs etc

Golf de Haut Poitou St Cyr
Course 1 - 18 holes 7249 yards Par 73
Course 2 - 9 holes 1800 yeards Par 31
The main feature of this excellent course is the pretty lake of St Cyr along which the second 9 holes run. This means, of course, that water comes into play on many of these, but you don't have to let that worry you as you play the first 9 threading your way through pretty woodland where your major concern will be to keep the ball away from the trees that closely border the fairways. The comfortable clubhouse is set high up above the course & the large terrace provides wonderful views across the lake where there are few better places to enjoy a post-round drink.

Golf de Royan - St Palais sur Mer, Royan
Course 1 - 18 holes 6480 yards Par 71
Course 2 - 6 holes 1006 yards Par 20
In the heart of the Forêt de la Coubre, this superb undulating course, slightly inland from the coast, stretches out amongst the pines and natural dunes. After playing the 14th tee you have great views of the sea looking over the trees, and at the end of your game there is a friendly clubhouse where you can relax in the bar. It is probably the best course in the region.

Golf de la Pres - La Rochelle, Marsilly
Course 1 - 18 holes 6513 yards Par 72
A typical Scottish links course with numerous bunkers, 8k from La Rochelle. It overlooks the Ile de Ré and 5 of the holes follow the coastline. Built on dried up swamp land, it is a flat course swept by sea breezes and offers several water hazards. This pretty course will be enjoyed by all golfers.

Golf du Chateau des Forges
Les Forges, St Maixant L'Ecole, Deux Sevres
Course 1 - 18 holes 7009 yards Par 72
Course 2 - 9 holes 3500 yards Par 36
Fairways are generally large, but the rough can be punishing. The course is split into three 9 hole courses, with varying degrees of difficulty, which makes it suitable for players of all abilities. The blue course is quite flat making it ideal for high handicappers, the white course has several water hazards and is ideal for mid to low handicappers, and the red course, with its undulating fairways, is a good challenge for low handicappers. The friendly clubhouse has a welcoming atmosphere and has tennis courts

Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir
Mignaloux Beauvoire, near Poitiers
Course 1 - 18 holes 6741 yards Par 72
Just 9k east of Poitiers at Mignaloux, this pretty course is set in the wooded grounds of the Manoir de Beauvoir hotel, with water coming into play on eight holes. Golfers will find it very varied with many interesting holes but overall is not too challenging.

Fees. Solo €44 to € 56 depending on the season.
Traditional links course, with shrubs, ponds and a stream. Fits t9 holes with wide fairways and well guarded sloping greens. There are many bunkers and it has little protection from the often strong sea breezes. The inward 9 holes have narrow fairways ponds and streams. This course will suit all standards of player.
Golf Niort. - Chemin de Grand Ormeau, Niort Romagne. Tel. 05 49 09 01 41
Par 71. 5868m Architect. Robert Berthet 1984.
This is a flat course which shares a few holes with the race course. It has well defended greens with bunkers and ponds, narrow fairways make it a technically demanding course.
Practice facilities include Chip and put greens, bunkers and a 20 place driving range 12 of which are under cover.
