Vendee, just 3 miles from the picturesque medieval town of Vouvant and close to
local amenities, lies this beautiful holiday home, sleeping up to 10
people.
It has a lovely garden, large breakfast terrace and a 6 metre
diameter outdoor swimming pool.

Downstairs the
house enjoys a recently fitted kitchen with gas hob and electric oven,
microwave, fridge / freezer, dishwasher etc., a large living room where everyone
can gather. If you want to keep up with your favourite programmes, there is a
flat screen HD TV with DVD player and Freesat TV. You’ll also find a double
bedroom, a shower room and separate toilet on the ground floor.
Upstairs
there is a large dormitory bedroom with 4 single beds, a further double bedroom
and an occasional bedroom off with another 2 single beds.
There is a kitchen
annexe with a washing machine should you need it.
Outside
There is a
large breakfast / dining terrace, a big garden ideal for games or sunbathing and
a 6m diameter swimming pool.
Location
Located in the South Vendee, St Maurice des Noues is a small,
quiet village between La Chataigneraie and Fontenay le Comte, only 3 miles from
the lovely medieval town of Vouvant, on the borders of the Mervent-Vouvant
recreational forest.
The house is set on a quiet road which leads directly to
Vouvant, and is only a few hundred yards from the centre of the village.
This
beautiful property is perfectly located for exploring the area.
The
village has a bar and a riding stables, and is visited every day (except Sunday)
by a lady selling freshly baked bread. You can enjoy quiet walks around by the
church and the local farm, which breeds prize winning Charolais
cattle.
Local Attractions
Just 3 miles away is the lovely medieval village of Vouvant, with
its ancient walls and tower overlooking the Melusine river. A perfect place for
a picnic down by the river, or for the more energetic, climb the tower and enjoy
the spectacular views over the countryside.
Then there is the forest of
Mervent Vouvant, where you’ll find the fantastic Pierre Brune play park, great
for adults and youngsters, the Mervent zoo, and miles of mountain biking
trails.
Mervent itself has spectacular views, and on the lake you can hire
boats or canoes. You’ll also find lovely little restaurants and creperies tucked
away in forest glades and ancient chateaux.

Unspoilt beach near Talmont St. Hilaire
The nearby town of
Fontenay has a couple of Hypermarkets, a thriving outdoor market on Saturday
mornings, and numerous cafes and bars for you to visit on an evening. The
municipal pool here is also a favourite.
Further Affield
You’re just
over an hour away from the atlantic beaches (the closest at La Tranche is just
an hour), La Rochelle and Les Sables d’Olonne (famous as the starting place of
the Vendee Globe yacht race, and its lovely little zoo, and in the rock pools at
the south end of the beach you can find crabs, starfish and sea
anemones).
Just beyond La Rochelle is the exclusive island of the Ile de Ré,
with it’s sandy beaches and exclusive designer shops in the island’s capital of
St. Martin.
La Rochelle is a great place to visit for the outdoor dining
around the harbour, and to wander around the quaint arched streets packed with
exclusive shops.
About an hour in the other direction you’ll find Poitiers,
with the Parc du Futuroscope well worth a day out.
Also within an easy drive
are Nantes (fantastic cathedral, castle and restaurant quarter, but dreadful
traffic at rush-hour) and the popular theme park of Puy de Fou (allow a full day
for this, and don’t forget the evening shows).

About an
hour from airports at Poitiers and La Rochelle,3 hours from St Malo, 4.5 hours
from Caen or a
7 hour drive from Calais (8 hours from
Zebrugge).
